Hemagglutinin and the Flu
The influenza virus has on its surface a protein called hemagglutinin. As it becomes acidic, this structure changes shape and turns into a harpoon. It literally breaks open the, the endosome and lets the flu genetic material into the cell. And then your cell is hijacked and begins to make more flu viruses - H1N1 or H3N5 for example.
