The United States and the Philippines
The united states was in the philippines out of purely humanitarian reasons, according to historian McKinley. The two were always sort of joined at the hip as a result of slavery and dispossession of indian land through settlement across the continent. Rather than see this kind of imperial humanitarianism as an oxy moron or a contradiction in terms, it was actually a kind of humanitarian imperialism that had characterized united states history for a very long time.
