Charles Stravallian was a providentialist who felt the famine had been the will of God, but that's not the same as saying he wanted the Irish to die. He did work very hard to try and improve the situation in Ireland and had a genuine concern for the welfare of the people. You probably can't go into anyone's background and not find somebody who helped do a genocide at some point. A lot of genocides happened all the time; we've done a lot of them as a species. Just don't write a book about how what makes you responsible is you trying to justify it rather than being like the rest of us.
