He talks about how an organism turns forces that are buffeting it into means to further its own existence. So just having this very biological model, right, so hes can extend this to the social life of the community. Rit on analogy, we go from organisms and growth and reproduction to the perpetuation of a certain kind of social existence by passing down norms and skills and practices.
