For most of history, there was no need to call spontaneous generation anything. Chinese writings from the shang dynasty say that aphids grow spontaneously out of bamboo. Bagonia comes from the ancient greek words for oxen, progeny. The idea is a lot like samson's riddle. If you were a bee keeper who failed at keeping your bees, you could get new ones by growing them inside the body of a dead ox.
