The Life and Times of John Quincy Adams
When Andrew Jackson died, John Quincy Adams was 78 years old. Even Boston had condolence parades for the fallen president. He would not engage in the false hypocrisy of saying that he was sorry to see him go. In late 1846, he collapsed while on a walk with a friend and his doctor told him he had a stroke. Just months after his stroke, he was back in Congress railing against the Mexican-American war.
