Rock Mononoff's Theme
Rock Mononoff claimed that the theme had come, quote, ready-made and had written itself. For the accompaniment, Rock Mononoff wanted to find a way for the piano to play the melody as a singer would sing it. One of the overriding things you need to know about this concerto is its difficulty for the piano. Gary Grafmann once said that he regretted not learning the concerto when he was, quote, still too young to know fear.
