The Boston Tea Party and the American Revolution
In the 1770s, people in North America started drinking coffee instead of tea. The Boston Tea Party saw many Americans make the switch from coffee to tea. Coffee was also grown in many other parts of the Americas such as Brazil and Haiti. In 1822, Brazil secured its independence from Portugal and began to make a lot of money off of coffee. It cleared huge amounts of rainforest, built enormous railroads and took advantage of a crop that was uniquely suited to it.
