In isaiah forty, verse two, where it says she has received double for all her sins. Some commentators believe it should be taken literally in the sense that she, israel, has suffered twice as much as she deserves. But i've never heard of any custom about nailing anything to a wall or a gate or anything like that. I have never run into that at all. It seems to be an imported idea.
