In 2011, I wrote a blog post about the Tamir Lane principle. The idea is that if you want to have liberty, not just today, but also tomorrow, you've got to provide public goods that provide for a common defense. Tokyo has put in more benches and less trash cans; they're taking heed of my advice. But another problem with libertarianism is it doesn't recognize there are mezzanine levels of power between the federal government and normal people.
