The Importance of Self-Presentational Behaviors

The idea of self-presentational behavior is a very old one in psychology. People have been talking about this idea that as we're interacting with other people in the social world, we're acting pretty differently than how we would act if we were just on our own. To the extent that we are imagining or representing a hypothetical agent, whether it's ourselves or God or a friend of mine or a neighbor next door, then to the extent that you're changing your behavior is because of that imagined entity, it might be called self- Presentational.
