Is It a Fixed or a Based on the Perception of the Speaker?

There's not always different variations of gender, something like table. You know, there's really no such thing as a as a fairy table versus a human table. I'd be interested in seeing how many similarities there are where there's the same consonant skeleton that's just filled with different vowels. And I've thought about doing a language with the vowel switching, but I was afraid it would get kind of muddled.
