The Hurshi Corridor
The shungnu empire was built out of trade taxes and tribute paid to them by weaker kingdoms. As the war dragged on, they began to suffer a down turn. A narrow strip of land between the tibetan plateau and the gobi desert became an important part of this story. This place is known as the hurshi corridor - today it's the site of china's g 30 highway in gansu province. For the chinese, the logistical challenges of conducting a war across this desert landscape were enormous.
