Vanguard of this 19 58 revolution was a free officer corps, a bunch of military nationalists. Their leader was a guy named general cassim. Casim was really imitating nasser, the president of eg who had done something similar in his country a couple of years before. The basic fear was that revolutions like the one that had just happened in a rock would continue to spread and then unite under nassar.
