The Role of Comprehension Strategies in Building Meaning
Comprehension strategies were really one of the shining lights of the balance literacy movement. But comprehension is so tied to knowledge and to vocabulary that you can't actually build comprehension strategies without a background knowledge about the text. For me, Balancetrissi's missing in the classroom is that first piece which is bringing reading to life for students.
