The soles or bottoms of most shoes are made out of plastics. To make plastics, you have to burn oil and cole and use all these crazy chemicals that can be really bad for planet earth. Just to make one pair of sneakers, it makes so much pollution, actually, 30 pounds of avisible gas called carbon dioxide. That's like a medium sized dog amount of carbon dioxide.
