The Importance of Collateral in the World Economy

Finance is not about new financing and interest rates, it's about re financing. And balance sheet is about liquidity and understanding these floes. The world economy is around 100 trillion dollars in size. So debt is approximately three and a half times that. O that flow of that 100 trillion, about one fifth is capital spending, and about half that capital spending is externally finance through the capital markets. You're talking about something like ten trillion dollars, which you've got compare with the 70 so in other words, the re financing that occurs in markets now, financial markets now, is seven times the new financing.
