The Point System Is Negotiable

The point system has become – what students will negotiate on because they don't take our standards seriously. The question they come to you and try to nickel and dime you to death on another half a point or two. So everything's negotiable to them. Our professional judgment is negotiable. And you know what? It shouldn't be. If we tell students precisely what to do in the specs, then they won't learn how to figure things out and make decisions on their own. All they'll learn how to do is to follow directions.
