There's almost nowhere in the United States that you can be confidently drink wild water without risking something like Giardia. I think with UV filtration as well, it's been big in the outdoor world kind of relatively recently. You have to be conscious of storing it in a opaque container afterwards because the bacteria can UV reactivate.
