The Pandemic: What Happened to Essential Workers?

Sociology of Labor author Jamie Hoyle looks at how the pandemic affected workers. He says there were three main groups: people who lost their job in the immediate crash, those who transitioned to working from home and essential work sites. People like fast food workers didn't get the respect they deserved for what was deemed essential by the public, he says. Some jobs lobbied for staff that did clearly non-essential work such as staffing some shops or stores not selling essential products.
