If the voice referendum is lost, then I suspect the government will try and put it in the context of the loss of the republic referendum years ago. The number one thing it should stimulate is a real backlash on the conservative side of politics about what they are really doing to the nation. They seem to be pinning their continuing political aspirations on a deep negativity that is not in the national interest. And in the end, I don't even think it's going to be in the coalition's interest to pursue this kind of politics to its logical conclusion down the drain.
