Labour's Electoral Geography Is a Matter
Labour still has not won the popular vote in non-London England since 2001. The frustrating part for conservatives I suspect is they had everything to play for and expanding that territory. There are still about three dozen Red Wall seats that are in Labour hands with very, very small Labour majorities. Even if they got smashed in parts of the Blue Wall, there was territory that they could have leaned into to offset those losses.
