The Importance of Beauty in Art
It seems very different between art and literature. Nobody would say that's not the real middle march if you're reading a Penguin Classics copy, whereas if you have some sort of print of Van Gogh sunflowers, that's obviously not the real thing. I think that's what's so interesting to look back at 500 years at the invention of printing, at the different conditions that have obtained at the time. The question is then how we aspire beauty to it. And I began by saying how beautiful these books are, and they really are. But does it matter that those books are by nature reproduced? I'm not sure.
