Galleenus new position on the danube led to a significant asion of germanic tribes along the rhine, along the lower portion of the river. The franks poured across the frontier as posthumus scrambled to hold them off with what forces he had been left with. A huge group of alamani, a tribal super confederation simil to the franks, poured through the under garrisoned gap between the danube and the rhine.
