I think that what I'm calling quantitative aesthetics is part of what people experience when they experience the collapse of the middle of culture. There are less room for things that are blockbusters and that are the tiniest, smallest emerging things with no stakes. And then finally, one of the things that was really generative for me about the Nathan Heller article is talking about how the language of statistics has become the cultural language of prestige amongst a lot of people with no cultural formation with an Ivy League, cultural formation.
