The Battle of Guadalcanal

The US Navy had aircraft carriers in the area but very few and they were badly mauled in the Battle of the Coral Sea. So that you know the Navy carriers were spread incredibly thin so the Army couldn't do it send in the Marines to attack Guadalcanal from the air. There was only one Marine squadron and that was added to fairly soon but there were dozens of Japanese planes coming down every day to attacks Guadalcanals ships offshore. "These guys were working really hard I mean it's like the RAF in the battle of Britain," he says.
