The Importance of Organizing in the Industrial Union Department

By the mid 80s I had a degree in labor studies. Fantastic. And you were working for the AFL-CIO? Yeah the industrial Union Department of AFL-Cio and I was mainly organized in steel workers. So my first campaign was MESKAR steel in New Albany, Mississippi  and then I organized blow-on-ox in Jackson, Mississippi. In some of these plants there was real division between the blacks and the whites so nobody considered me black for obvious reasons but nobody considered me white for because I wasn't like any of the whites around there. So I was like sort of an objective anomaly person. That's amazing.
