Herodotus - The Pillars of Hercules

Herodotus refers to a geographical place called the pillars of hercules. This is used to reference the raised lands of morocco and gibraltar. The phoenicians would find the luxury of gold along the atlantic coast line of west africa. They were also able to acquire tin from the coasts of the british isles. Some claim that the phoenicians had the skill to circumnavigate the entire continent of africa. But even cast his own doubts on whether they could have done it.
