CHARLES's Marriage to Henrietta Maria
Unlike his father, charles quickly became involved in european conflict. This was the original sin of his reign. He recognized the critical rule parliament had in government. His objection was that parliament was trying to hobble him and make him unable to fulfil his own critical role. Given the other complexities of the age, this made conflict inevitable. Much of charles's reign turned on ever shifting alliances and deals with france and spain,. as well as various central european states all of whom were embroiled in their own wars.
