The computation would be done on the superconductive material as well. The light sources receive signals that say, hey, a neuron reached threshold and send it out to all your downstream synaptic connections. When you're working with superconductors, you have to be at low temperature because they don't work otherwise. It's still not as efficient as compound semiconductors, but it might be good enough for this application.
