The question though is to what extent is the US role as the only country with a scale that in and of itself can compete with China? To what extent is that indispensable or do these other secondary powers play a supplementary role that is effective in a strategic sense. I think it's also interesting that countries in the region are not looking from their own words as they're trying to avoid an arms race or an arms build up in the region, he says.
