The Inquisition and the Jews in Spain
The Alambra decree stated that all Jews must become Christians or leave Spain by the 31st of July 1492. Ferdinand thought he would get a lot of money from the Jewish coffers because the Jews weren't allowed to take any money with them effectively or very, very little. He commandeered everything they left behind. So I think it was an extremely detrimental thing to have done and I think that was the main reason why the Jews went into exile. They could convert to Christianity, but of course they majority often didn't want to do that. Some of them did convert and became what were called conversals.
