Salem Village and Its History

As the population of Salem grew, it also spread westward. This created pockets of smaller communities far from Salem's harbor and original settlements. They called these the Salem Village to avoid confusion with the older, more wealthy Salem town. The fields and woods farther inland were parceled out to a handful of families who were ready to settle down and farm there.
