When police rushed to respond to a triple murder in one of South Africa’s most exclusive gated communities, it seemed as though Henri van Breda had had a lucky escape. They found him standing on his family lawn, dead-eyed and covered in blood and urine. According to the neighbours, he had been eerily waving to them while he waited for the police.
