The Importance of Compassion in Buddhist Studies
Buddhist studies is moving more towards a rich consideration of narrative literature as being foundational for understanding the tradition. It's kind of not a subject of Buddhist philosophy. You can talk about all these abstract ideas, but compassion is just compassion, you know, you hear about the suffering of others. And perhaps some of that is the fact that we're not allowing ourselves to see the complexity of this idea as it is discussed in a lot of Buddhist sources.
