The Barker family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1910 as a way to get them out of their bad environment. The boys began to strategize, scheming up ways to bring in money via less than legal roots. They'd watched their father try and fail for years to make a decent living on the straight and narrow crime they decided seemed a lot smarter. "Who would not arrive at these conclusions? It's hard to fault like the logic here," says Emily.
