The Importance of Charity in the Roman Catholic Church

Thomas Aquinas wrote that whatever we have in superabundance is owed of natural right to the poor for their sustenance. John Locke, favorite philosopher of America's Founding Fathers, said charity gives every man a title to so much as will keep him from extreme want. For these Christians sharing our surplus wealth with the poor is not a matter of charity, but of our duty and their rights.
