The Urn: A Poem of Empathy
Keats was known as a chameleon poet in that whatever he was close to, he seemed to be absorbed into. He said he could empathise even with a billiard ball, an inanimate object. So these coy women who have been courted. What mad pursuit? We don't know. This is the first stanza. I think it means that though he's not saying it here, we are going to get this mix of reverence to the urn, but also questioning. And that seems to continue throughout the poem,.
