Bias is the code that our brains run on, and some people have it more than others. You can do little hacks to make short circuit the breaker and override them in cases where it's unhealthful. We form these first impressions and we assume that is who that person is. And if you just associate that with who they are, then you're really not giving people the benefit of the doubt.
Among the many biases that we can fall prey to, one of Calvin's favorites is the fundamental attribution error. The bias, sometimes known as the "correspondence bias", is your tendency to assume that someone's behavior is due to the "kind" of person they are, rather than the circumstances impacting them.
In this episode, Calvin and Steph discuss the cognitive bias, why it matters, and how we can combat it.
