How to Determine the Distance to a Star
If you want to determine the distance to a star, then you can use this method called parallax. Close stars appear to move relative to the background and the degree by which they move can be issued. The same thing happens when the earth goes around the sun. Now you can notice parallax yourself by simply putting your own finger in front of your face and looking with one eye and comparing the position of your finger to the background. You'll see the finger appears to move. This direct relationship is why I say direct measurement.
