The Ecstatic State of St. Francis

St. Catherine of Siena would fall senseless every time she received Holy Communion, for example. She would lie as though dead after receiving Holy Communion. St. Francis had similar things happening to him. He would simply become insensible to external stimuli because he was so entranced by the divine presence and power. So they rather quickly recognize that he's been touched by God.
