The Consequences of Scourge
In John 19 verse 1, then Pilate therefore took Jesus and scourged him. Some individuals historically thought the flagellum was actually merciful. And so as I read this stuff, these accounts of what human beings actually did to each other, I'm horrified. This really does portray Jesus as more sympathetic with Pilate continually struggling with this inner turmoil. What do I do? Jesus is innocent. I can't do this. It's just not going to work.
