And when we look at emotions in the world today it is a very different, much more secular, much more anodyne kind of picture. We are more likely to come across a meme telling us that our emotions are valid and thatOur emotions are natural and that we should definitely express them. So I suggest that historical research can help us throw some light on what happened there and why we live in such a different world today.
