The Disadvantages of Age in Science

Nearly the whole of what organization of science exists and the vital administration of funds is in the hands of old men. What this means is that a very large fraction of the time and money spent on chemistry nowadays is sheer waste. The ability of a young worker is much better judged by his fellows in active science than by any committee of elders, however eminent. Under existing conditions, eminence in science is often attained at the expense of breath of outlook and general culture.
