The Magos - A Goethea, or a Goetea?
Gorgias' use of the term Magos referred to, around about 427. That is clearly in connection with incantations and deceptive speech or deceitfulness. In Euripides, from about 43 onwards we have mages healing diseases and conferring immortality. And just towards the end of the 5th century, probably the Hippocratic sacred disease text, we have mages curing diseases,. offering to cure diseases, attempting to and controlling weather. So that's what we're getting into at the very beginning of the tradition with mages.
