Is Every Intubation Difficult?
A critical care clinician's approach is to try and get the best view of the vocal cords without putting the patient at risk. That includes using topical xylocaine, which is not systemically absorbed,. Using as little amount of sedation or analgesia possible during the time of intubation. And I would also have the patient sitting upright so that they have optimized their respiratory mechanics.
