Apocalyptic Christianity - The Odd Ball at the Centre of the Story

The story takes place in the largely 19 thirties and forties. It kind of covers a time when there was well behaved religion, and then there was the kind of religion that nobody would approve of. And an unusual intersection of the ven diagram of how that interacted with with the science and with a mia and with government and with cities. In retrospect it's an extremely surprising story because of the odd ball at the centre of it.
