I Think It's Hard to Separate the Religious Components of Progressivism From the Democratic Party
The conservative movement, broadly speaking, created itself as a sort of spontaneous order with some direction from important people. It's worth remembering that that argument was very much at home in the Democratic Party back then. The elements of it did, obviously, there are lots of religious people who thought defending religion was important.
