Are Women Less Likely to Be on a Statin?

Despite the evidence, clearly showing that they benefit, women are less likely to be offered a statin. Women were 30 to 50% more likely to report statin-associated muscle symptoms and stop statins for this reason. Young women under the age of 55 were significantly less likely than men to be on a statin two months after their MI. There's no difference of muscle symptoms between treated and placebo in randomized clinical trials.
