Is the Speed of Light Exactly 300 Million Meters Per Second?
The speed of light was defined in meters per second. This is orders of magnitude better than what you could measure length to. It's kind of fortuitous that these things came about because as you know, there was a persistent kind of confirmation bias effect with measurements of the speed of light. And I don't think it could have been done earlier than 1980.
